Chattanooga Choo Choo

Centennial Celebration

The first annual Glenn Miller  Orchestra Concert was a complete sell-out and a huge success. Big Band Fans from as far away as California, Phoenix, and Denver traveled the miles just to hear this world-famous orchestra....and they were not disappointed!

If you missed it this year, make plans to be here on May 29, 2010...plenty of time to take a few dance lessons or dust off your dancing shoes!

From Denver: "We have been to eight big band performances in the past few years, and this is the best ever. We will be back next year! First class act!"

From California:"I have never felt so at home as when I walked into this lobby. I work for the National Trust Society whose job it is to preserve just these types of memories. You have done a wonderful job of helping this to happen." By the way, this couple attended the dance in vintage WWII costumes, and danced the entire evening...what a delight to watch!

The World Famous Chattanooga Choo Choo

Celebrates 100th Anniversary in 2009

Chattanooga, Tenn. (November 2008) - The famous Chattanooga Choo Choo, one of Chattanooga's oldest and  most well-known attractions, will celebrate 100 years in 2009. A 100th anniversary party is definitely cause for a special celebration. From Dec. 1, 2008 - Dec. 1, 2009, the Chattanooga Choo Choo will commemorate this milestone with overnight packages, events, parties, keepsake souvenirs and much more.

The highlight of the year-long festivities includes a special big-band concert by the Glenn Miller Orchestra, whose original band members put the Terminal Station on the map with their recording of "Chattanooga Choo Choo" in 1941.

"You get to observe your 100th anniversary only one time, and we're planning on making the Choo Choo the place to be all year long. We have a lot of great events planned and we're really looking forward to an outstanding celebratory year. In addition, we've also made a number of changes and improvements to get ready for this pinnacle anniversary," said Jim Bambrey, General Manager of the Chattanooga Choo Choo. "This milestone gives us the opportunity to look back and celebrate our incredible past while also focusing on the new and exciting future of our timeless attraction."

As part of the Centennial Celebration, the Chattanooga Choo Choo will join the prestigious group of Historic Hotels of America and end the 20-year association with Holiday Inn in late 2009. By becoming an independent hotel under HHA, the Chattanooga Choo Choo will join their two-hundred plus unique historic properties, hotels and inns across the country.

During the past two years, the Choo Choo has spent over three million dollars in renovations and additions to the historic property. There have been extensive renovations to the guest rooms, meeting spaces, the exterior and formal gardens, and a complete new look in the grand dome lobby, the original Terminal Station's most prominent feature.

Bambrey added, "The Choo Choo has attracted visitors from all over the world who repeatedly come back to stay with us. They love the nostalgia of the experience and we want to continue to provide the ambiance of the 100-year old Terminal Station. And by adding new entertainment and completing renovations, we're giving visitors another reason to come back and stay with us."
